Cincinnati Reds (Cingrani) at Chicago Cubs (Villanueva)
Cingrani has been very solid so far this year, but there is one concern I have: he’s walking 4.67 batters per nine innings and his HR/FB rate hasn’t normalized yet. When he regresses, it will be heavy. I’m not willing to make that gamble when there are better options at his price point. I have no statistical evidence for this, but I’m sort of shying away from most Reds hitters today, too.
Joey Votto (1B) – $10,250
Carlos Villanueva is off to a terrible start this year, with a WHIP over 2 and an ERA over 11. He has been hit hard almost every inning he’s pitched, so I will shy away from him. What I will say is that he is a veteran pitcher that does have his moments. He also held the Reds to just one home run in 18 innings against them last year. I’ll stay away from Cubs hitters against Cingrani today, though.
