1. Oakland Athletics (55-33) (Last Week 1) – The A’s have a MLB-high six all-stars, and that doesn’t even include Samardzija, who made the N.L. team for the Cubs.
2. Milwaukee Brewers (52-37) (LW 2) – Jonathan Lucroy may have come up just short in the N.L. catcher’s voting, but he still made the squad as a reserve for his MVP-quality season. He’s hitting .329/.397/.516 with a 4.5 WAR.
3. Los Angeles Angels (51-36) (LW 5) – As good as the Angels have been, only Mike Trout will be heading to Minnesota next week. Once again, Albert Pujols is not an all-star, failing to make the team in each of his three years in L.A.
4. Atlanta Braves (49-39) (LW 9) – Thanks to the Samardzija trade, Julio Teheran got the all-star nod as his replacement. His 2.29 ERA ranks seventh in the National League.
5. Detroit Tigers (48-37) (LW 3) – The Tigers have familiar names on the all-star roster with Miguel Cabrera, Victor Martinez, and Max Scherzer, but it’s odd not to see Justin Verlander representing Detroit. His 4.71 ERA is his second-worst of his career, and he’s on an all-star break for the first time since 2008.
