Oakland Athletics (Chavez) at Texas Rangers (Ross)
Jesse Chavez has pitched fairly well this year but his one problem over the course of his career is home runs. He started to come down to earth against the Astros, of all teams, so I’m not overly excited for him to pitch in Texas. Again, there are other options (like Eovaldi) that I’d rather go with at his price point. Oakland has beat up on Texas so far this series but I will avoid most of their hitters against a lefty.
Robbie Ross, over parts of three seasons, is now at a 2.59 ERA in 156.2 innings with a 1.25 WHIP. There’s a lot to like about him as a pitcher and Oakland doesn’t have a lot of big right-handed bats with Yoenis Cespedes hobbled a bit. I will be using Ross in most lineups today along with Eovaldi. I’m not too keen on their bats against Chavez, though.
Robbie Ross (SP) – $15,336
Alex Rios (OF) – $6271
