Montreal Canadiens at Tampa Bay Lightning
The Habs have won eight of their last nine games but they haven’t all been Picasso’s. The team was outplayed pretty handily against Boston and only managed 19 shots on goal against the Florida Panthers last Monday. One thing the team has done exceptionally well over those nine games is kill penalties; in their last 33 short-handed chances, the Habs have killed 31 of them. In fact, they have allowed just two power play goals against in their last 11 games overall.
Tampa Bay has been a pretty impressive streak of their own, going 7-1-2 in their last 10 games overall. Four of their last five games, though, have gone to at least overtime so they are playing a lot of close games that they weren’t a couple weeks ago. The power play has been a major reason for the team’s sustained success as they’ve converted 11 opportunities in those 10 games, good for better than 25-percent along the way.
This is a big game for both teams as they are both seemingly locked in the number-2 and number-3 position in the Atlantic Division. A regulation win ties Tampa Bay with the Habs with a game in hand on Montreal. These two teams have faced off twice this year with both games going to at least overtime, both teams winning a game, and both games finishing 2-1. I don’t think there are many great value plays here tonight, so I’ll probably just stay away from this game altogether.
