Colorado Avalanche at Columbus Blue Jackets
A couple of injury notes here as Matt Duchene will miss the rest of the regular season with a knee injury and Nathan Horton will be out for a game or two longer with a lower-body injury. That changes the lineup for both teams, as Nathan MacKinnon will be on the top line with Ryan O’Reilly while Mark Letestu and Corey Tropp both in the top nine consistently right now.
Colorado has won three straight games but as averaged 37 shots against in those three wins. A little bit of good goaltending is always nice, but having to rely on it game in and game out is not. The power play is just 1-for-14 over their last six games and that represents a dual problem: Not only are they not drawing many penalties of late, but they’re not converting the ones they do get.
Columbus has scored four power play goals in their last three games but it’s the goaltending that has been superb: the team hasn’t allowed more than three goals against in any of their last 11 games.
It’ll be Sergei Bobrovsky returning tonight for Columbus and I think he makes a decent start in 50/50 games. I don’t like the look of the Avalanche without Duchene so Goalie Bob seems fine for lineups. I will avoid the higher-priced players from both sides, though.
