Calgary Flames at Toronto Maple Leafs
The Flames went through an extended stretch of exceptional team defense that allowed them to win games with some regularity. That has changed lately, however, as the team hasn’t allowed fewer than 34 shots against in four straight games. The scoring has slowed down a bit but it’s not overly dramatic; the Flames have scored 10 goals in their last four games and one of those games was a 2-1 shootout win over San Jose. It’s not a fluky run of percentages either, they’re averaging 32 shots on goal over their last five games (dating back to the 8-1 hammering of Edmonton).
The Leafs have lost eight straight games in regulation and barring a mini miracle, have played themselves right out of a playoff spot. This would be a good game to show their fans that they are still believing in themselves.
I’m not a believer in the Leafs but one player that has been absolutely on fire in DFS is defenseman Jake Gardiner. The young d-man has five goals and six assists in the team’s last 12 games and is riding a four-game point streak in which he has all six assists. He’s also shooting a lot more, so his floor as a DFS option has improved.
The Leafs went into Calgary in October and beat the team 4-2. That seems like a lifetime ago and I don’t think that repeats itself tonight. It may be a higher-scoring game than it looks on the surface so I will avoid both goalies and just use value plays from either side for my 50/50s.
