St. Louis Blues at Minnesota Wild
St. Louis is on one hell of a slide of late. Sure, it’s only a 2-4-0 stretch but the team has scored just seven goals in those six games. It is a bit of a percentage regression; they’re still averaging about 30 shots on goal per game but are shooting just 4-percent over their last six games. The power play is just 1-for-16 in their last five games while the penalty kill has given up five goals against in their last five games. This is a team that is limping into the playoffs in almost every manner.
Minnesota had a big shootout win on Tuesday night against the Bruins and that game, at the time, assured them of a playoff spot. The curious thing here is that the teams behind them can’t catch them and they are too far behind Chicago to catch them, too. With nothing left to play for, I wonder if there might not be some game-time scratches over their next couple of games. I would worry about relying on this team.
St. Louis is still playing for home ice throughout the Western Conference and Minnesota has run out of things to play for. I’m not saying the Blues blow the doors off this one – their shooting percentage of late would indicate otherwise – but I’m not sure I’m very high on Minnesota either. I would rather just look for cheap value and stay away from everyone else in this game.
