New York Islanders at Montreal Canadiens
The Islanders have lost three straight games, scoring just four goals in those games along the way. One problem for this team of late has been the penalty killing, as their PK groups have just a 75-percent efficiency in their last five games. One thing they have managed to do despite the lack of goals is generate offense, as the Islanders have averaged 36 shots on goal over those last five games. This is the sixth game in 10 days for this team, though, so I wonder if fatigue might not become a factor for these guys.
The Canadiens lost in overtime last night to a very sloppy goal from their goaltender Peter Budaj. Thankfully, this team rested some of their players last night, Carey Price included, for this home game tonight.
The Habs didn’t even manage to get a power play yesterday against the ‘Hawks, making six straight games and 17 straight opportunities without a goal for this Habs power play. They will be getting Andrei Markov back tonight and they are facing one of the worst penalty kills in the league. If there was ever a night for this power play to break out before the regular season ends, this seems like a good time to do so.
I don’t like the fact that the Habs are playing on back to back nights but I don’t mind Carey Price in net for 50/50 games. I would also look at some cheap Canadiens skaters for 50/50s.
