Dallas 24, Washington 23 (1974) – This is one of the most famous of the Thanksgiving Day games, as the Cowboys and Roger Staubach squared off with the Redskins and Billy Kilmer. The Redskins defense was all over Staubach throughout the game, and the “Over the Hill Gang” was dominant. Washington built a 16-3 lead at Texas Stadium and Dallas rookie QB Clint Longley had to replace the injured Staubach in the third quarter. He would lead the Cowboys to three late touchdowns, including the game-winning 50-yard TD pass to Drew Pearson with less than 30 seconds remaining in the game. Longley appeared to have stardom written all over his powerful arm, but he threw a sucker punch at Staubach the following year, and he ended up in San Diego. He started one game for the Chargers in 1976, and that was the end of his career.
