New England 49, N.Y. Jets 19 (2012) – The Patriots went to MetLife Stadium to play a primetime Thanksgiving game against the Jets, and the Patriots dominated from start to finish. However, this game became famous for one awful play by Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez. With the Patriots leading 14-0 in the second period, Sanchez collided with the rear end of teammate Brandon Moore. After absorbing the indignity, he lost control of the football and Patriots defensive back Steve Gregory picked up the ball and ran 32 yards for a touchdown and a 21-0 lead. That play became known as the “butt fumble” and it is as much a part of Sanchez’s legacy as Mookie Wilson’s grounder is a part of Bill Buckner’s. No matter what Sanchez does throughout the rest of his career, he will forever be remembered by the butt fumble.
