Florida Panthers at Ottawa Senators Florida is playing some very good hockey as of late, and on the season, are a better even strength team (at least possession-wise) than Ottawa is. That is not what I thought the case would be three months ago. The Panthers have won six of their last seven games and four in a row now (all those wins except one against playoff teams from last year). Over that stretch, they’ve scored more than three goals only once, but only allowed 10 goals in those six wins. They are playing very good team defense of late, and Scott Clemmensen has performed admirably in the wake of Tim Thomas’ injury. The Senators, meanwhile are pretty much in a free-fall. Though their record doesn’t really reflect it – they are 4-3-2 in their last nine games – Ottawa has looked awful on most nights. Ineffective puck-movement from their blueline beyond Erik Karlsson and terrible defensive zone coverage are the hallmarks of this team. In fact, they’re reminding me more and more of the Edmonton Oilers every day. I would expect quite a few goals tonight because this game will probably get very sloppy. This makes both goalies a bad play, but most skaters a good one.
