Daily Fantasy Hockey DFS Value Update – March 22

Jamie Benn

Detroit Red Wings at Minnesota Wild

Who knows what it is, but there’s just something about this Detroit team right now. Despite playing without their two biggest stars (Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg) and essentially half of an AHL roster because of the crippling number of injuries, Detroit has won three of their last four games and have actually managed to go 4-4-1 this month. The result is they’re only one point back of a playoff spot and have at least one game in hand on teams above them in the standings. The lack of star power has hurt the power play though, as it has gone just 2-for-25 over their last six games.

Thanks to the loser point, Minnesota has won just three games out of nine this month but has managed to grab 10 of a possible 18 points. Their last game out was a 4-3 overtime loss in New Jersey but that game represented a blip instead of a trend: There were 10 total power play opportunities in that game but just seven total in the three games previous. The Wild are playing some very disciplined hockey right now and that can be bad for DFS; there have been 13 total goals in the last two Wild games but just 17 goals in the four games before that.

This game is the first of a home and home between these two teams and they both should be extremely tough, hard games as both teams are racing to grab a wild card playoff spot. Two teams that need these points that badly probably results in solid defensive games. I would be looking to grab some cheap value plays for 50/50s and maybe Darcy Kuemper in net as well.
