Daily Fantasy Hockey DFS Value Update – March 18

Rick Nash

Colorado Avalanche at Montreal Canadiens

Colorado is 7-3 since the Olympic break but the most impressive part of that run is that the team has scored at least three goals in every game except one (a 2-1 loss to St. Louis). The power play has really started to heat up of late as well with four goals in their last three games (40-percent efficiency). I had thought that the losses of Alex Tanguay, P.A. Parenteau, and Paul Stastny would start to limit this team but it doesn’t seem that way. Of course, this is also the return of Colorado coach Patrick Roy to Montreal, so there is a bit of incentive for his players to bring their A-game tonight.

The Habs had one of the greatest comebacks (read: improbable comebacks) in the history of the NHL on Saturday as they were down 4-1 with 3:30 minutes left in the game and won 5-4 in overtime. I expected a bit of a letdown the next day, even if it was a game against Buffalo, but they managed to shutout the Sabres. One aspect of the game that hasn’t started to roll yet is the power play as the team has managed just a 6.5-percent efficiency since March 3rd.

Montreal went into Colorado with back-up Peter Budaj in net back in November and they lost that one 4-1. Tonight, Carey Price gets the nod in net and that muddles things a little bit for this game. Both teams should be emotionally charged for this one and I would guess that this ends up being a 3-2 or 4-3 game. I probably won’t take either goalie but there are lots of value plays on both sides thanks to a bit of lineup shuffling over the last week.
