Daily Fantasy Hockey DFS Value Update – January 10, 2014

Matt Duchene

Pittsburgh Penguins at Edmonton Oilers

The Penguins travel to Edmonton tonight to continue their Western Canada road trip, having taken the first one in a shootout 5-4 over the Canucks. That makes three straight wins for the Pens and a whole bunch of wins since December 1, but there’s a little caution to be exercised here: Pittsburgh has *only* scored 14 goals in their last five road games, which is about in line with the road goals/for on the season. Like most teams, they are less prolific on offense away from home.

Of course, the Pens get the Oilers tonight, who have the worst goals against/game in the NHL (3.46 per game overall) and it gets even worse at home (3.57). They have allowed 19 goals against in their last five home games and have just seven wins in 21 games at Rexall Place. It’s not a case of bad luck, either: Edmonton has averaged just 20 shots on goal for and nearly 32 against in their last three games at home. They’re getting out-played on almost a nightly basis.

Like the Leafs game, I’m trying to be analytical about this but there’s no angle I see where the Pens don’t blow the Oilers out of the water. Like most games, there’s enough offensive punch on Edmonton to make me wary of using whoever is in net for the opposition, but many Pittsburgh players should return value tonight.
