Daily Fantasy Hockey DFS Value Update – February 27

Toronto Maple Leafs at New York Islanders

There was an interesting tweet yesterday from The Globe & Mail’s James Mirtle about Toronto’s season and it was essentially this: two hot streaks sandwiching a cold streak, most of which was determined by team shooting percentage. The question is whether the Leafs can ride the hot streak they were on for the rest of the season and I don’t think it’s likely. The team is completely healthy except for Dave Bolland and the lines are pretty much the same from before the Olympic break.

Of course the big news for the Islanders is that John Tavares will be out for the rest of the season with a partially torn MCL and meniscus in his left knee. What compounds the problem is that second line centre Frans Nielsen is also on the injured reserve. That means the Islanders’ top three centres now are Brock Nelson, Josh Bailey and Ryan Strome. In short, this was a team that struggled for mediocrity before and should get their teeth kicked in regularly now.

I’m a sucker for punishment so I’ll say that tonight makes a good night to stack the Leafs. This game is a good barometer for the Leafs coming out of the break: can they put their foot on the throat of a weaker opponent on the road? I’ll wager yes. Though I might be more tempted to go with guys like Nazem Kadri and Joffrey Lupul over their Olympians.
