Washington Capitals at New Jersey Devils
In losing five of their last six games, the Capitals have slid to nearly irrelevant in the playoff situation. A regulation loss for either team tonight will probably be the death knell for either team’s dim playoff hopes. In short, this should be a fun one with a playoff feel to it.
The Caps were shutout in their last game and that marks the second time in their last 10 games that the Caps have managed 34 shots on goal and been shut out. It appears as though the shot rates (particularly on the power play) that have carried them much of the year are starting to run out. One note to make is that the return of Mikhail Grabovski saw him join the top line with Alex Ovechkin (and Nicklas Backstrom joined them later that game).
New Jersey has points in four straight games but three of those were shootout losses (of which they have 11 to zero wins). The team has gone seven straight games allowing 27 shots or fewer, allowing just 15 goals along the way. But they have scored just 18 goals in those seven games, with one-third of those goals coming in one game against the Panthers.
I don’t expect more than five goals in this one and as such I won’t lean heavily to either side for DFS. I would take a couple players from the Devils power play and that’s about it.
