The Jets have whiffed on drafting quarterbacks recently, considering how Mark Sanchez and Geno Smith have quickly fell out of favor with the hometown fans. Michael Vick wasn’t the answer either. But if Mariota is sitting there and the Jets pass him up, there may a riot in the Big Apple.
In Todd Bowles’ recent jobs in Arizona, Miami and Philadelphia, he hasn’t had any spectacular quarterbacks. And as a defensive-minded coach, we’re not sure how much value he places on the position compared to other needs. But the Jets have been starving for a franchise quarterback for long enough, and the front office knows it.
