Takeaways From Week 6 In The NFL

Tony Romo

3. A tie? Yes a tie

After five quarters, neither team was able to move ahead, and thanks to a late missed field-goal attempt by Mike Nugent, the Bengals and Panthers had to settle for a 37-37 tie Sunday afternoon.

Cam Newton knifed through the Bengals defense as both a passer and a runner, throwing for 284 yards and two touchdowns and rushing for another 100 yards and a score. Andy Dalton, though, was equally effective. Without the help of top receiver A.J. Green, Dalton threw for 323 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

The combined score of 74 points marked the highest-scoring tie since the institution of overtime in the NFL back in 1974. Previously, the Steelers-Broncos 35-35 tie that year held the mark.
