21. New York Mets (46-52) (LW 20) – As much as the Mets need, a shortstop may top that list. New York’s shortstops – mainly Ruben Tejada – are hitting a dreadful .235/.337/.298 with just 99 total bases.
22. Miami Marlins (45-52) (LW 23) – Things started well in Miami early on, but indications now are that the team is in selling mode. The question is just how far they will take it.
23. San Diego Padres (43-55) (LW 25) – Odrisamer Despaigne turned in a gem on Sunday in his fifth major league start, going 7.2 innings in the win. But the bigger news is that he came up just four outs short of tossing the first no-hitter in franchise history.
24. Arizona Diamondbacks (43-56) (LW 27) – After a disastrous first half of the season, Arizona is starting to get things together, and the offense seems to be clicking. The D’backs are leading the N.L. in runs scored since the All-Star Break with 17.
25. Minnesota Twins (44-53) (LW 22) – Minnesota’s pitching staff has been one of the worst in baseball all year, and that trend is continuing in the second half. The team’s ERA was at 4.26 pre-All-Star Break. Since the layoff, it’s been 5.33.
