Dallas Stars at Tampa Bay Lightning
With a point from Phoenix, the Stars are now on the outside of the playoffs looking in. This is a big weekend for them and they know it.
One thing that worries me about relying on Dallas goaltending right now is that the team has allowed four power play goals against in their last three games. Streaks like that, especially when facing Steven Stamkos, are bad. The team has also allowed at least 32 shots on goal in three straight games, so the team defense is playing a little loose right now. These are not good signs for a road game in Tampa Bay.
Tampa Bay will be in the playoffs but they are at risk of not having home ice off the start, and that’s not ideal for this team. This team has been playing close games of late, but they have been limiting the other team’s chances: Tampa Bay hasn’t given up more than 30 shots against in five straight game and that’s led to just 13 goals against in their last five games even though starter Ben Bishop has been less than sharp.
These two teams played a month ago with Tampa skating away with a 4-2 win, though they were outshot 41-21. This game seems like a coin flip so again, I will stay away from the goalies and focus on the skaters, particularly from the top power play units.
