Winnipeg Jets at Toronto Maple Leafs
The Jets have played themselves out of the playoffs so I really wonder what motivation they have here tonight. The team is 2-4-1 in their last seven games and they’ve allowed 22 goals against in that stretch. Their last two games have been pathetic offensively, as they’ve only scored three goals and have managed just 37 shots on net in those two contests. The team has also given up seven power play goals against in their last seven games and that’s not good heading to play the fifth-best power play in the league.
The Leafs are starting to shoot hot again as they’ve won back to back games and shot 13.2-percent along the way (seven goals on 53 shots). One thing this team has done is shore up their penalty killing a little bit; the Leafs have given up just three power play goals against on their last 18 chances, good for an 83.3-percent rate (about 5.5-percent higher than their season rate). If they can stay out of the box and try to gun with the Jets, they stand a good chance in this one.
I can’t rely on either team so I won’t rely on either goalie. The last time these two teams met it resulted in nine total goals and while that is extreme, this game should be a track meet. I would look to the top players on either side to help my 50/50s.
