Washington Capitals at New York Islanders
With the loss last night, the Capitals are all but out of the playoffs. Given that situation, I don’t know if they really show up tonight. Not that they needed less motivation, this team is 0-2-2 in back to back games since the Olympic break. They have generally been getting their teeth kicked in on the possession board, and that’s what leads to a lot of losses. Seeing as this team has only averaged two goals for in their last six games is reason enough for me to fade them today.
The Islanders have won three straight games and only have 10 goals against in their last six games overall. Somehow, this team is playing really good hockey and are doing the franchise proud. After a bit of a drought, this team has three power play goals in their last two games as well, and this Washington team is only 19th in penalty killing. This team keeps scoring goals, too, having scored 16 in their last six games despite an expected slump.
The last two games these two teams have played has produced exactly six goals. I think this one is a lot more wide open though so I would not look at whoever is in net for a play. I would look at the individual power plays, though, for rounding out 50/50 and heads-up lineups.
