St. Louis Blues at Minnesota Wild
St. Louis has reeled off four straight wins since Ryan Miller was inserted into the lineup, allowing just six goals against in those games. The team isn’t lighting the lamp in averaging just three goals per game in those games but they are consistently winning. They did play yesterday afternoon in Colorado and that would mean Brian Elliott probably gets the start. Be wary of St. Louis in this one as they’ve lost both games this year in which they were playing back-to-back games on the road.
Minnesota has started to look like the playoff team they were expected to be with three wins in four games coming out of the break. They did lose yesterday afternoon in Dallas but have still only given up seven goals against in those four games. The power play has also gotten going of late as they have converted three of eleven chances over their last four games. The top line of Zach Parise, Mikael Granlund, and Jason Pominville has been excellent since being put together so I would look to them for production tonight.
This is the third meeting between these two teams this year with the Blues taking the first two by a combined score of 5-1. This would seem to indicate that tonight’s game won’t be very high scoring. Both teams are playing back to back situations so keep an eye on the goaltenders for tonight; it very likely could be Elliott against Ilya Bryzgalov and that means there could be more goals than might be expected otherwise.
