Boston Bruins at Florida Panthers
After coming out of the Olympics with back to back losses, the Bruins have now won four straight and have scored 16 goals in the process. On the flipside, they’ve only given up seven goals against in return. What’s even more impressive is that in their last three games, the Bruins have outshot their opponents by a total of 54 shots on goal. They have only drawn five power plays in their last four games so relying on power play units isn’t the way to go in this one (i.e. Torey Krug). The third line of Carl Soderberg, Loui Eriksson, and Chris Kelly have been very good of late, as well.
Florida has allowed at least three goals against in four of the five games since the Olympic break and the one that they didn’t was against Buffalo. Without their top centre Aleksander Barkov, and with Marcel Goc traded at the deadline, this team is severely lacking down the middle. One of the strength of the Bruins is the play of their centres so this creates quite the mismatch. Credit given where credit is due though; the Panthers have four power play goals on their last 25 opportunities which represents a success rate in their last five games about twice that of their season rate.
Boston did play yesterday afternoon in Tampa Bay so I have a little bit of hesitation with regards to stacking this team, even if it is against Florida. These two teams have met four times this year with the Bruins outscoring the Panthers 17-6 in those games. I would be looking for cheaper options on the Bruins side of the puck and would use whoever starts in net for cash games. I just don’t think the Bruins blow them out, though.
