Montréal Canadiens at Los Angeles Kings
The Canadiens are off on the dreaded California trip and that begins tonight with a game in Los Angeles.
Montréal managed five out of six points to Detroit, Pittsburgh, and Toronto last week and considering Carey Price was injured for all three games, that’s pretty impressive. Other than the stellar goaltending that they’ve gotten from Peter Budaj, the power play has been the biggest reason for their success; the Habs went 4-for-9 on the power play in the two games against Pittsburgh and Toronto. At even strength, though, the David Desharnais line is pretty much the only line able to consistently drum up offensive pressure.
Los Angeles has looked very good coming out of the Olympic break, posting three straight wins and, most exciting of all, 11 goals for in their first three games back. For reference, they only scored 13 goals in their 10 games leading up to the Sochi Olympics. Notably, Jonathan Quick has not missed a beat since coming back from the Olympics, posting just one goal against in the two games he played (Martin Jones played the first one back).
Remember, this is the Los Angeles team that absolutely destroyed Montréal 6-0 back in the middle of December in Canada. The Kings are too big, too deep, and too skilled for Montréal to keep up with them. Because of a lack of other options, I wouldn’t mind a Kings stack in GPP games today. Jonathan Quick also makes a good goalie for your 50/50 games.
