Calgary Flames at Minnesota Wild
The Flames have looked very Flame-like coming out of the break: Calgary was shut out at home by the Los Angeles Kings and then went into Edmonton and won a 2-1 game in overtime. There have been only 101 shots in the two games they’ve played so far and five goals total. Going back further, there have only been 16 total goals in Calgary’s last five games going back before the Sochi break and no game has featured more than 56 total shots. In other words, Calgary is playing a style – both offensively and defensively – that isn’t leading to many goals in their games and that’s bad for DFS.
Minnesota has won their first two games out of the break – a 3-0 win in Edmonton and a 2-1 shootout win in Vancouver – but just like Calgary, there are not a lot of goals in their games. There could be help on the horizon as the latest reports put center Mikko Koivu as a game-time decision to return tonight from an ankle injury. As good as Mikael Granlund has been, Koivu would give them two scoring lines to work with. Keep an eye on my Twitter feed (or better yet, just follow my NHL list) to see if Koivu returns tonight.
If Koivu does return, expect him to play with Zach Parise while Granlund stays with Jason Pominville.
I am leaning Minnesota for this game tonight but there are enough moving parts that I won’t rely on them to stack in GPPs. Remember that if Koivu does come back, his return changes line combinations at both even strength and on the power play. I think goaltender Darcy Kuemper makes a good play tonight in net.
