Dallas Stars at Phoenix Coyotes
Dallas has gone 4-1-1 in their last six games but what’s most impressive about that stretch are the eight goals against they’ve allowed in those games. Dallas was having a serious problem a month ago keeping the puck out of their own net and while they are getting the better numbers possession-wise, it’s been the play of goalies Kari Lehtonen and Dan Ellis who have been the biggest reasons why. It also should be noted that one of those wins was a 2-0 game in Anaheim, making Dallas the only team to shutout Anaheim in Anaheim this season.
Phoenix has just six wins in their last 16 games but find themselves just one point out of a wild card playoff spot (and Dallas is just three points behind Phoenix). The Coyotes have allowed just 10 goals against in their last six home games which have helped them to a 4-2 mark. The curious thing is that those two losses were to Buffalo and Toronto, teams that the Coyotes probably should beat. One thing that Phoenix has going for them is special teams: the power play has scored in 12 of their last 14 games and the penalty kill is 84.3-percent over that stretch.
These two teams haven’t met yet this year, which is pretty odd considering they are separated by a whole one state. I don’t like betting on games of intra-conference teams that haven’t played each other, especially this deep into the season.
With all that said, I do like Dallas to take this game tonight and their top line is absolutely flying right now. I wouldn’t outright stack Dallas in all my LUs, but I will have many of their players sprinkled across different lineups.
