Tampa Bay Lightning at Minnesota Wild
Tampa has a chance to salvage a .500 record on this road trip with a win in Minnesota. While Steven Stamkos isn’t ready to return yet, the news was he could be back by the weekend. For now, the team will have to keep riding goaltender Ben Bishop who hasn’t slowed his play at any point this season. The thought would be that Tampa Bay would slow down eventually without Stamkos, but the Lightning haven’t lost more than two games in a row in over two months and they are still winning the possession battles in most games. This is a very impressive team from top to bottom.
Minnesota has been playing a bit more inconsistently as they are getting some wins of late but are losing the possession game by a lot in quite a few of their more recent games. Also, it seems as though goaltender Darcy Kuemper’s good fortune has start to run out of late as he’s gone just 2-2-1 in his last five games and allowed 18 goals against in his last six games.
This is a game that Tampa Bay should win but I really have a tough time betting on road teams in cross-conference games. Both penalty kills have been pretty stellar of late, so at the least I expect this game to not be high-scoring.
In a bind, I’ll take a couple of depth Lightning players but I don’t know if there will be enough goals tonight to make the more expensive players worth it.
