Calgary Flames at Montréal Canadiens
Calgary… has… won five games in a row?
This isn’t some sort of turn-around; this is a streak of good fortune. The Flames have been getting better in the possession game but still aren’t able to put consistent efforts together. Another problem is that Karri Ramo, otherwise known as the “OK Calgary goalie”, has been put on the injured reserve with a knee injury so this is Reto Berra’s team now. Though he’s won his last couple of games out, Berra’s save percentage is under .900 in 24 games this year so these past couple of games are a blip more than a trend.
If there’s a bright side for the Flames in all of this it’s that they get Montréal tonight, one of the few teams that has been as bad as Calgary for the last couple of months. The Habs are 3-6-1 in their last 10 games and most of that is thanks to the offense; Montréal scored just 20 goals in those 10 games and 12 of them came in their three wins. That means in the Habs’ last seven losses, the team has scored eight goals. That’s Calgary-level stuff right there.
The Habs already lost to Calgary this year and that was back at the very start of the season. It was a game the Habs should have won but shows good insight into this game today; Calgary is bad, but Montréal isn’t much better right now. The difference is essentially Carey Price and P.K. Subban. I’m going to just avoid this game altogether except for big value plays.
