Colorado Avalanche at New York Rangers
The Avalanche looked like they were sleep-walking most of the game last night in New Jersey yet managed to score late to tie it up and then win it in overtime. It’s kind of scary how good this team is when they decide to play. I’m not sure if it was travel, looking ahead, or what, but Colorado took most of the game off and still came away with two points. Their underlying numbers don’t look great of late but they can be a bit misleading; there are games where they’re blowing teams out and then letting off the gas. All teams do that but they’ll need a 60-minute effort tonight against the Rangers.
The Rangers went 10-4-1 for the month of January but that’s not what’s impressive. What’s impressive is that of their 10 wins, six of them were by at least three goals. That’s completely absurd for any extended period of time. The play of Henrik Lundqvist has been exceptional of late as well as he’s allowed just 15 goals in his last 10 games and he’s only had one blow up since Christmas, which is about right considering his totals for the last three years. I would like to see the power play kick things up a notch – they have gone goalless in four straight games – but other than that, this team looks lethal right now.
This should be a pretty good game tonight as these are two teams playing very well of late and both teams are deep enough up front that there could be a lot of goals in this game. Despite how well Lundqvist has played of late, and Colorado playing back-to-back on the road, I won’t risk my DFS night with him. I will be taking skaters from the Rangers, though.
