Toronto Maple Leafs at Dallas Stars
Oh boy.
Well I don’t even know what to do with Toronto anymore, as this is a team that should be getting a lot more losses than they have been – their six-game win streak is the longest for this team in several years – but they keep winning. This is a team that has been outshot by nearly seven shots, on average, over this winning streak and yet the points keep piling up. A strong power play and great goaltending will do that. Oh yeah, and Phil Kessel’s pretty good too. One thing that has been covered up in this stretch is that their penalty kill has given up four goals in those six games, rolling along at an 80-percent clip. That’s not very good.
Dallas is reuniting the top line of Jamie Benn, Tyler Seguin and Valeri Nichushkin tonight for the first time in a couple of weeks. Nichushkin had been a healthy scratch for a couple of games, though it’s more likely for maintenance than anything else. Dallas has started to right the ship a bit, having gone 2-2-1 after their six-game losing streak and a lot of that has to do with the powerplay: in those five games, their PP is rolling along at a 31.6-percent efficiency.
I have no idea what to do with this game, so I’ll take a couple value plays from either side and that’s it
