New York Rangers at Edmonton Oilers
The Rangers lost to the Calgary Flames 4-3 on Friday night and that was only the second time in their last 13 games that the team has given up more than three goals against. The defense and goaltending had been tight all month, it was just a one game letdown.
With Chris Kreider out of the lineup for the foreseeable future, there has been some line jumbling going on. Martin St. Louis is back with Brad Richards on the second line, Daniel Carcillo has found his way to the top line with Derek Stepan and Rick Nash while the Mats Zuccarello/Derick Brassard/Benoit Pouliot trio that had been so good in short spurts together have been reunited. This line shuffling provides a lot of good DFS value opportunities.
The Oilers halted their three game losing streak on Friday night with a 4-3 win over Anaheim. It was also the second time in 19 games that the Oilers won a game against a California team despite giving up over 50 shots on goal. To summarize what this team is about, of Edmonton’s six wins since the Olympic break, all but one have come when the goaltender has posted a save percentage of at least .940 (the sixth one was a .903 performance in a 4-3 shootout win). Predicting when goalies will save 94-percent of shots is a dubious situation at best.
The Oilers went into Madison Square Garden back just before the Olympic break and skated out with a 2-1 win. A game in which, you guessed it, Ben Scrivens stopped 35 of 36 shots for a save percentage of .972. If the Rangers score a few goals, they win. It’s unreliable whether or not they will do that though. I don’t mind Cam Talbot in net for 50/50s because this is a game they should win, and some of their higher-priced guys because they should get at least a few goals, but it doesn’t mean it’ll be an easy game to watch.
