Daily Fantasy Hockey DFS Value Update – March 17

Tyler Johnson

Phoenix Coyotes at Los Angeles Kings

Phoenix has started their playoff push with three wins in their last four games. Sure, they were wins against Calgary, Florida, and Tampa Bay but wins are wins. This team is pretty awful for DFS though as they have the lineup blender on the bench every single game it seems. The only line that has remained intact for the last three games has been Brandon McMillanMike RibeiroShane Doan. For several games, Oliver Ekman-Larsson had been splitting time on the power play with defenseman Michael Stone. In their last game, however, Stone only got some sporadic power play time so it seems this team has returned to their bread-and-butter of leaving Ekman-Larsson and Keith Yandle on the power play for the full two minutes.

Los Angeles had won seven straight games coming out of the Olympic break but have now lost two in a row to Toronto and Anaheim. Their margin for error is typically pretty small so the fact that they have averaged just two goals for/game in their last three games means that the goalies have to give up one or fewer to win. That’s a double-edged sword in DFS: Either the goalie has a great game and wins with just one or two given up or they lose and have two or three goals against. With so little room for a mistake, it’s not ideal to start whoever might be in net for this team.

Los Angeles has already lost twice to Phoenix twice this year and have just one goal in the two losses (they scored seven in their lone win against the Coyotes). This has all the makings of a low-scoring game so I will just be looking for a couple of value plays from Los Angeles and will likely be leaving both goalies alone for tonight.
