Daily Fantasy Hockey DFS Value Update – March 16

Jonathan Toews

Montreal Canadiens at Buffalo Sabres

On the flipside of that debacle in Montreal last night, the Habs are undoubtedly riding a pretty high wave of emotion right now. The trick will be to channel that tonight as they visit Buffalo, a place where they can squander an easy two points if they aren’t careful.

The Habs are starting to find their offensive groove a bit as they’ve managed 84 shots on goal in their last two games. One problem is that the power play has gone just 2-for-28 in their last six games. Teams can’t keep squandering power play opportunities like that and expect to win consistently. Hopefully their play over the last few days has been enough to bring the confidence back to the man advantage. One final note: It will be Peter Budaj in net for Montreal. Budaj has been very below-average for the Habs of late and they might need him to pick the team up a bit today.

Buffalo has lost five games in a row (all in regulation) and have managed just four goals along the way. The latest was a 4-1 loss yesterday afternoon to the Islanders, a game where their only goal came on the power play. With all the trades they have made this year, there just isn’t a lot left for firepower up front. This is very evident by the fact that this team has managed more than 26 shots on goal once in their last 10 games, and that game was yesterday against a very mediocre Islanders squad.

The Habs have beaten the Sabres twice in regulation this year in their only two meetings, but have managed just a 6-3 goal margin. I would anticipate another low-scoring game here and that would make Budaj a good start in GPP games if owners felt so inclined. Other than that, I’ll just be looking for value picks from this one.
