Daily Fantasy Hockey DFS Value Update – March 16

Jonathan Toews

Colorado Avalanche at Ottawa Senators

The Avalanche are still going to be without Paul Stastny (back injury) so the lineup will probably remain unchanged from games previous. At least from a DFS standpoint, it hasn’t really hurt the values of some of the higher-end players that much as Colorado has scored at least three goals in eight of their nine games since returning from Sochi. The power play is starting to heat up as well, converting three of nine chances in their last two games. They’ve also gone 8-for-9 on the penalty kill in their last four games and that includes games against St. Louis, Chicago, and Anaheim. Not too shabby.

LOL Ottawa. Last night, the Senators had a 4-1 stranglehold on the Canadiens with under 3:30 left to go in the third period. The Canadiens would reel off three goals in the next 200 or so seconds, the third one coming with under a second left on the game clock. The overtime didn’t last long as the Habs scored less than a minute and a half in to seal the two points. Games like that can be absolutely demoralizing for a team and while the mentality should be “forget about it and move on”, it’s not so easy to do less than 24 hours later. This team has to stay out of the penalty box as they’ve averaged six penalty kills in their last four games, a mark that will get them buried by the Avalanche (nailed it!).

Ottawa went in to Colorado back in January and forced an overtime game that they would eventually lose 4-3. I expect a decent game out of Ottawa but this one has Colorado written all over it. I may go with a small stack of some Colorado players and may even tempt goalie Semyon Varlamov in some 50/50 lineups.
