Daily Fantasy Hockey DFS Value Update – March 16

Edmonton Oilers at Carolina Hurricanes

Sunday’s Sadness Bowl features one team who is perennially awful (Edmonton) and one team that never fails to disappoint its fans down the stretch of the season (Carolina). Yay.

Edmonton has actually managed to get half the points in their last eight games (3-3-2) and that is nothing short of remarkable for this team. In fact, since January 26th, this team has more wins than losses (8-4-3). A lot of this is thanks to Ben Scrivens who has managed a .929 save percentage in his 11 appearances as an Oiler (and faced fewer than 33 shots in just two of his eleven games). The power play is ice cold right now so it’s just a matter of figuring out who might get their one or two goals (hint: not worth the gamble).

Carolina has trotted out Cam Ward in net for four straight games and while it’s a nice feel-good story, he’s gotten progressively worse in his last three games. It’s a shame to watch a goalie that was once so good just free-fall, but injuries have essentially cut his career short. He is doubtful to get the start today, though, so again keep an eye on LWL.

Carolina played yesterday in Boston (a 5-1 loss) while Edmonton gets to start this game fresh. That essentially brings this game to an even-steven type of game. Scrivens is already confirmed in net for Edmonton and he’s almost confirmed to face 40 shots again. He might not be a bad play in net but I really don’t like the outlook of this game from any angle. It could realistically be anywhere from 5-4 to 2-1 so I’d rather just avoid it completely.
