Daily Fantasy Hockey DFS Value Update – January 18th

Frans Nielsen, Daily Fantasy Hockey

New Jersey Devils at Phoenix Coyotes

New Jersey finished up their quick four-game road trip tonight in Phoenix and they can take six of eight points with a win tonight. They have scored just 16 goals in their last eight games but have managed to go 3-2-3 to take 12 of a possible 18 points. If they could ever learn to win in a shootout, they could have a lot more team points on the season. As it is, the Devils have scored more than two goals in just two of their previous 12 games and their power play is just 12.1-percent in those games.

The Coyotes have just six wins in their last 20 games but by some miracle are just four points out of a wild card playoff spot in the West. Much like the Devils, Phoenix has had serious issues with scoring lately as they have just seven goals in their last five games. Five of those seven goals came on the power play, so the Coyotes have just two even strength goals in their last five games and they both came in a 5-3 loss to Anaheim.

This game is another candidate for the Sadness Bowl and a lot hinges on who starts for the Devils in net: if Martin Brodeur gets the nod, Phoenix could score quite a few goals tonight. If it’s Cory Schneider, this could be a very low-scoring game. Keep an eye on the starters before making your DFS rosters.

One last note is that both of these teams are pretty healthy so there’s not much to worry about for late scratches (lest, of course, there is a flu running rampant on one of these teams).
