Anaheim Ducks at St. Louis Blues
The Ducks lost last night in Chicago 4-2, a game that they definitely deserved to lose. It was just their second loss in their last 10 games, but both those losses have come on the road to very good teams (san Jose, Chicago), the exact situation they find themselves in tonight. One problem for the Ducks has been their discipline as they’ve given up 19 power play chances to the opposition in their last four games and that could be a problem against St. Louis, the number three team on the power play this year (24.1-percent).
The Blues lost to the Kings at home on Thursday night and was just their fourth regulation loss at home so far this year. The offense is starting to become an issue for them as they were on a pretty big goal scoring tear for a while but have managed just four goals in their last three games. They are getting a big boost tonight, though, as their leading goal scorer, Alex Steen, is expected to return to action after missing four weeks with a concussion.
This is only the second meeting this year between the two teams with Anaheim taking the first game (in Anaheim) 5-2 back at the start of December. There were seven goals on just 51 shots on net, a pretty high rate considering the two teams involved.
Tonight’s game is a pretty good spot for the Blues to take a much-needed win against a top team in the NHL and the return of Steen can only help. Anaheim is good but they’re due for a little losing streak, so I’ll be lining up with quite a few Blues tonight.
