Daily Fantasy Hockey DFS Value Update – January 18th

Frans Nielsen, Daily Fantasy Hockey

Montréal Canadiens at Toronto Maple Leafs

The Habs are coming off a 5-4 overtime win in Ottawa on Thursday night, a game in which Montréal was thoroughly dominated pretty much from start to finish and despite the four goals, was a game that was stolen by goaltender Carey Price. This makes eight straight games now that the Habs have alternated wins and losses, having been grossly outplayed in a few of them. The power play converted on their only chance in Ottawa, giving them their only power play goal in their last 18 chances.

The Leafs have won three in a row (two in a shootout) and the Leafs themselves have been outplayed in quite a few of their more recent games. One of their saving graces has been their power play which has converted five of their last 21 chances, meaning that the power play has accounted for 36-percent of the Leafs’ goals over their last six games.

This is the third meeting this year between these two storied franchises and each team has taken one game so far with the combined score being 8-7 in favor of the Habs. In other words, these are two teams that match up very closely with each other. They haven’t played each other since November, though, and both of these teams have been on a pretty serious slide (at least with regards to their underlying numbers) in the seven weeks since.

Expect this game to be close and probably go to overtime/a shootout. There will be enough goals to satisfy prices on both sides but I don’t know that either goaltender is a good idea; each team is capable of holding the other to 25 shots but each team has enough talent to score 3-4 goals on a low shot total.
