Vancouver Canucks at Phoenix Coyotes

Vancouver was absolutely waxed last night in Anaheim 9-1, a game where they gave up six power play goals, 11 power play opportunities and 44 shots on goal. Vancouver is a team with one win in their last eight games, four goals in their last three games and are going to face a Phoenix team that already has a home win this year against Vancouver, back when the Canucks were playing good hockey. If the Canucks want to stay in tonight’s game, they can’t give up the power play opportunities they have over their last couple of games, which is 18 total.

It’s not like Phoenix is rolling along right now, either, as they are 1-6 in their last seven games but have one very important thing going for them: their power play is 29.4 percent over those seven games. If the Canucks’ trend of taking dumb penalties continues tonight, the Coyotes could bury them out in the desert like the Canucks owed them money.

In all, it’s always tough to gauge a game where both teams are on a downswing, and both teams here are certainly on a downswing. It very well could be a high-scoring game, so I would avoid both goaltenders if that’s the case. However, I do like the idea of picking a lot of players from the Coyotes’ roster, particularly their power play, for tonight’s lineups.
