Pittsburgh Penguins at Phoenix Coyotes

The Pens took a 4-1 game from the Los Angeles Kings a couple of nights ago and have looked very on and off since getting all their stars back in the lineup. Oddly enough, that 4-1 win was without Kris Letang and the power play went 2-for-3 without him. Matt Niskanen has played very well for the Pens all season and he looked good again on the top power play unit when Letang was out. Also for the first time in a while, Crosby had a winger not named Chris Kunitz play the whole game with him and that was Brian Gibbons. Remember that name if you’re looking for a cheap play.

Phoenix is coming off a disastrous January in which they only won five of 15 games but they have managed to stay in the playoff hunt because of the faltering of teams ahead of them. Things are rocky, though, as backup Thomas Greiss started back to back games for the team. Though the Coyotes have decent underlying numbers in many of their games, they can’t keep the puck out of their own net. One thing they have done is score a power play goal in 12 of their last 15 games while the Penguins have given up three power play goals against in their last three games.

Cross-conference games are usually pretty tough to gauge because of the disparity of most of the teams and how infrequently they play each other. That said, Pittsburgh finds themselves in a pretty good situation to score quite a few goals in this game. Phoenix might get a couple in return but the Penguins should be good for four goals. That doesn’t necessarily mean all the big guns will get theirs, though.
