Daily Fantasy Hockey DFS Value Update – February 1

Ottawa Senators at Toronto Maple Leafs

It’s getting to the time of season where every matchup has pretty big playoff implications. If the Senators can win this one in regulation, they’ll be four points behind the Leafs with two games in hand. If they lose, they’ll be at least seven points behind the Leafs with two games in hand. The Senators know this and I expect to see a good effort from them. The Senators appear to have achieved some balance among their forwards and seem to have finally put together four lines that make sense. Their defense corps still needs work, but the forwards are figuring themselves out. It doesn’t hurt that Kyle Turris is on an absolute tear right now.

The Leafs are probably the hottest team in the NHL right now having gone 8-1-1 in their last 10 games. There’s a lot going right for them at the moment: both goalies are playing pretty well, the top players are firing offensively, the power play has 10 goals in 10 games while the penalty kill has ameliorated somewhat. The underlying numbers say that they shouldn’t be having this much success but when their skilled players play at the level that they are now, they can win a lot of hockey games. It’s worth noting at this point that rookie defenseman Morgan Rielly is probably the second-best defenseman on the team and it’s starting to reflect in his ice time with at least 18 minutes played in three of their last four games.

The first two games between these two teams went to a shootout and there were 14 goals scored in those two games. I expect much of the same tonight out of these two teams. I will avoid both goalies but look at the stars to anchor a couple of lineups.
