Daily Fantasy Hockey DFS Value Update – February 1

Philadelpha Flyers at Los Angeles Kings

The Flyers continue their California trip and this time they get the Los Angeles Kings, two days after losing to the Anaheim Ducks. For the Flyers, that game was a microcosm of the last two months of the season: score three goals, have suspect team defense, goaltending lets you down. Lather, rinse, repeat. Part of the problem, as I said, is their team defense isn’t very good; the Flyers are getting their teeth kicked in possession-wise lately. One thing they have done is score a power play goal in four straight games. Again, offensively this is a very good team. Defensively and in net is a whole other question, though.

The Kings lost 4-1 to Pittsburgh on Thursday night and that made seven losses in the last eight games for Los Angeles. In an opposite manner from Philly, the Kings tend to kick the teeth in of their opposition yet they can’t score a goal. In fact, the team has just three goals in their last five games and that’s approaching Calgary Flames levels. There is nothing about this team offensively that looks good at most points of the game and even Jeff Carter is unreliable now.

It’s quite the contrast in styles that these two teams have: one can’t score but can shut down the opponent, the other can’t stop scoring but also can’t keep the puck out of their own net. In this sense, if there was to be a game where Los Angeles will break out offensively, it’s this one. And I use the term “breakout” very loosely; even three goals would be remarkable for this team right now.

I’ll be taking some cheap Kings skaters in hopes that this is the game that gets them going but that’s it from this game.
