Chicago Blackhawks at San Jose Sharks

In the marquee matchup of the day, the number 2 and the number 4 team in the Western Conference meet in San Jose.

Chicago has had a couple of days off after a back to back and though they’re on the road, they should be rested for this one. The ‘Hawks were able to stop their four-game losing streak with a 5-2 win in Vancouver on Wednesday. Considering all the talent on this team, it’s amazing that the Vancouver game was the only time since December 17th that this team scored two power play goals in one game. It might not mean much because of how good the Sharks penalty kill has been of late but it is a good sign for a Chicago team that has struggled to score goals at times lately.

Speaking of struggling to score goals, the Sharks have one goal in their last three games and they were shut out three times in their last 10 games.  In fact, this team has 17 goals in their last 10 games and scored one or fewer goals in six of those 10 games. The Sharks power play has gone ice cold of late as well after failing to convert on 12 chances in their last five games. Not only are they not drawing a lot of penalties, they’re not converting on the chances they do get. They’ll need to rectify that if they want to win this game.

I don’t think this game gets away from San Jose but I do think Chicago wins this one comfortably. The ‘Hawks are healthy and the Sharks are not and that disparity is all that’s needed between two otherwise evenly-matched teams.
