Daily Fantasy Hockey DFS Value Update – April 9

Marian Hossa

Detroit Red Wings at Pittsburgh Penguins

The big news for this game right off the top is the return of Penguins defenseman Kris Letang. Less than three months ago, Letang suffered a stroke (he’s 26-years-old). It was uncertain when (if) he would play hockey again, and here he is in the same regular season. Fantasy aside, best of luck to him and best wishes for his health.

Detroit has won five of their last six games and a win tonight would give them a mathematical lock on a playoff spot, something that seemed improbable as little as a month ago. One thing that has helped this team considerably in their last several games is the penalty killing, which has gone at a 90.9-percent clip in the last seven games. One thing that does worry me is that this team has allowed at least two goals against in 13 straight games.

The Penguins should get a big boost with Letang coming back, though he’s slated to start on the second power play unit and I’m sure his ice time will be managed. Of note is that Beau Bennett has stayed on the top line while Brian Gibbons seems locked in on the second line.

This could have a feel of a playoff game because this could very well be a playoff match-up in about a week. I do expect quite a few goals, though, so I will lean to neither goalie and pick apart the players for 50/50 games.
