Daily Fantasy Hockey DFS Value Update – April 11

Jamie Benn

Winnipeg Jets at Calgary Flames

Winnipeg played last night at home against Boston and pulled out a 2-1 win in a shootout, even though Patrice Bergeron, Zdeno Chara, and Chris Kelly were given the night off. Tonight’s game is the final game of the season for the Jets, so I would hope that they go out playing their hardest.

The Jets are just 1-for-11 in their last five games on the power play but it’s not the conversion that overly concerns me, it’s the amount of power plays; averaging just over two power plays a game is (usually) indicative of one thing: Not playing a fast game deep in the offensive zone or going through the neutral zone. With Andrew Ladd out for the year, it was Evander Kane that took the spot on the top line alongside Bryan Little and Michael Frolik. It also brought Eric Tangradi up to the second line with Olli Jokinen and Blake Wheeler.

Calgary has won four games in a row and while the competition hasn’t been insane, they have beaten two playoff teams in that stretch (Tampa Bay and Los Angeles). One huge problem for this team, even though they have six goals in their last three games, is generating offense; the Flames have averaged just 19 shots on goal over their last three games.

Each team has won a game over the other this year in their two head-to-head contests and there have been 15 total goals scored. For as defensive these two teams can be, it appears they play a little more wide open than normal. Again, I would avoid the goalies and pick at value skaters for 50/50s.
