Daily Fantasy Hockey DFS Value Update – April 11

Jamie Benn

Carolina Hurricanes at Detroit Red Wings

Carolina dominated the game last night against Washington but ended up on the wrong end of the score by a 5-2 margin. It was a 38-21 margin on the shot clock for the ‘Canes but the goaltending just wasn’t there for them.

An issue that Carolina has been running into is getting power play opportunities; in three of their last five games, the team has drawn fewer than two penalties. No matter how much a team dominates at five on five, it’s tough to win consistently without taking advantage of special teams. They have had a bit of problem scoring as a result, as the team has 15 goals in their last seven games, but eight of those goals came in their only two wins over that stretch. When they lose, they’re fairly useless in DFS.

The Wings have now locked up a playoff spot and that is extremely commendable. The next step is to lock up a ticket against Pittsburgh rather than Boston in the first round, which means they still need to win games.

Detroit has really piled on their recent opponents, outshooting the opposition by an average of 10.5 per game in their last four games. That would indicate that they are indeed playing some pretty good hockey and not just getting by on luck right now. One interesting note is that David Legwand seems to be the extra forward on the top power play unit, and that’s a prime position to be in. I would lean the Wings tonight, but I’m not sure they dominate. I’d rather just take a couple of skaters for 50/50s and that’s it.
