Boxing – Fight Night Guide for Dec. 14

Devon Alexander throws a punch against Marcos Maidana

Beibut Shumenov vs. Tamas Kovacs, 12 rounds, WBA light heavyweight title

A former Olympian for his native Kazakhstan, Shumenov (13-1, 8 KO) relocated to Las Vegas in hopes of becoming a factor in the suddenly crowded 175 lb division. So far, he has failed to impress, with a few controversial wins and very sparse level of activity. In Slovakia’s  Kovacs (23-0, 14 KO) he’ll get a solid test against an unbeaten opponent who’s on a similar mission in his first fight overseas. It will be hard for them to match the intensity of the most recent high-profile bouts in the division, but it could end up being a very entertaining clash.

What to look for in this fight: Another night in the office for a solid fighter like Shumenov against a limited opponent.
