Last night, the Yankees won again, picking up their 8th consecutive victory. That is very impressive considering how young they are and the lack of pitching. They are hitting the ball well, especially at home – where they haven’t lost. Boston took down the Rays, where their closer had one less strike out than their starter. Ichiro got the opportunity to play in Seattle where he was greeted warmly. The first pitch tonight is 7:05 so you have time to tinker with your line up to complete perfection.
Low-Scoring Plays
Washington Nationals @ Atlanta Braves – Scherzer will do his thing in this game and cruise against the Braves. Mike Foltynewicz has limited appearances against the Nationals’ line up. Bryce Harper is 0-3 against him, but Murphy is 4-7. His ERA is high so far this year, however, I think he will rise to the competition and perform well against the Nationals.
Targets: Scherzer, Murphy
Texas Rangers @ Oakland Athletics – This should be the pitching match up of the day. Yu Darvish takes the mound for the Rangers and is always capable of throwing a gem. On the other side, Andrew Triggs starts for the A’s, and he is 2-0 this season with a 0.00 ERA. Andrew Triggs is young and will have a relatively hard time with the Rangers line up. But, the Rangers scored 7 last night, and they should stay under that total tonight.
Targets: Darvish, Napoli, Beltre
High-Scoring Plays
Boston Red Sox @ Toronto Blue Jays – If you read my columns you know I’m all -in on this Red Sox lineup. They still have yet to show their full potential this season. Mookie hasn’t had a home run yet and Bogaerts is playing well but not making headlines. Hanley is in mid-season form, swinging for the fences on every pitch and losing his helmet in the process. The Blue Jays are struggling this year and this is an opportunity for the Red Sox to bury them in the AL East. Brian Johnson has one career start and an 8.31 ERA. This is an opportunity for the Blue Jays to get their bats going. With a Red Sox team that is streaky, I like the Blue Jays in this game.
Targets: Tulowitzki, Bautista
Chicago White Sox @ New York Yankees – Highlighted in the intro, the Yankees are here to play this year. Judge is coming onto the scene hitting home runs and driving in runs. Torreyes is playing well with double digit RBIs on the season. In the other dugout, the White Sox have Avisail Garcia who is batting .447, and Matt Davidson batting .355. A game at Yankee Stadium we will see a couple of home runs over the short walls.
Targets: Hicks, Ellsbury, Headley
Undervalued Play
Brian Johnson – BOS – SP – He is making his 2nd career start and first of the season. Johnson is $4200, and if you get a starting pitcher at his price, you can take the top player in almost every position. It is a risky play but looking at the matchup it might be a steal. Look at the Blue Jays’ rankings (out of 30 MLB Teams) – Average – 27th, Runs – 30th, OPS – 30th, HR – 30th.
