Teammates Get Ejected for Fighting… Each Other

During Tuesday’s D-League tilt between the Iowa Energy and the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, Iowa teammates Jarnell Stokes and Kalin Lucas got into it during a third quarter timeout and were ejected from the game.

And a closer look:

Lucas was reportedly “bloodied up a bit.”

More from the Des Moines Register:

When play resumes, the broadcaster tells his audience, “…Some unfortunate happenings. Not sure what happened on the Iowa bench, but teammates kind of got into it.”

The Energy were winning 82-78 at the time, with Lucas having scored 18 points and Stokes chipping in 16.

Broadcasters went on to explain that the game was being delayed while the Energy bench area was being cleaned up. They also explain that Lucas was “bloodied up a little bit.”

They go on to report that Lucas and Stokes were no longer on the court or bench, and would not be allowed to return to the game.

One could argue that the brawl occurred between two of the more recognizable figures currently on the roster. Lucas had a notable career at Michigan State, and Stokes is a rookie who completed three successful seasons at Tennessee.

And the tale of the tape doesn’t exactly lay the framework for an even matchup — Stokes is listed at 6-foot-7 and 250 pounds, while Lucas weighs in at 195 pounds and stands 6-foot-1.
